Creating your first outbound campaign

Step-by-step guide to building an outbound campaign in Consio — segments, dial attempts, voicemail drops, cue cards, and launching.

What you need before starting

  • Shopify connected (Settings > Integrations) — required for customer data and order context

  • Klaviyo connected (Settings > Integrations) — recommended for advanced segment targeting

  • At least one phone number provisioned and verified

  • Audio files for voicemail drops (optional but recommended — upload in Settings > Audio Library)

Step 1: Create the campaign

  1. Go to Campaigns in the left sidebar

  2. Click Create Campaign

  3. Name your campaign (e.g., "Abandoned Cart Recovery — July 2026")

Step 2: Select your segment

Choose the audience for your campaign. You have two sources:

Shopify segments — Consio automatically creates a default segment called "Consio - Abandoned Checkouts - 15 days" in your Shopify instance. This is the recommended starting point for your first campaign.

Klaviyo segments — Any segment in your Klaviyo account is available. Common campaign segments:

Campaign type

Segment example

Abandoned cart

Abandoned checkout in last 15 days

Winback

No purchase in 90–120 days

VIP outreach

Top 10% customers by LTV

Reorder reminder

Purchased consumable product 30+ days ago

Post-purchase upsell

Purchased product X, hasn't bought accessory Y

Sync timing: Segments re-sync every 2 hours. If you just created a Klaviyo segment, wait for the next sync cycle before it appears in Consio.

Step 3: Configure dial attempts

Set how many times to call each contact and the spacing between attempts:

  • Max call attempts per contact — how many times to try reaching each person (1–10)

  • Delay between attempts — how many days to wait before the next attempt

Recommended starting config: 3 attempts, 1 day apart. This gives you three chances to connect without being aggressive.

Step 4: Set calling hours

Define when your campaign can make calls. Consio respects the recipient's local timezone — if you set 10 AM – 6 PM, a contact in California gets called during California business hours, not yours.

Important: This is different from business hours (which is workspace-level and controls inbound routing). Calling hours are per-campaign and control outbound dialing.

Compliance notes:

  • Consio recommends no more than 3 attempts per number per day. This is our guidance, not a legal limit. Set attempt limits using the calling rules that apply to your recipients.

  • Avoid early morning and late evening — stick to 10 AM – 6 PM in the contact's timezone

  • The Exclude Texas residents toggle is available for Texas SB 140 compliance

Step 5: Set up voicemail drops

When a call goes to voicemail, agents can drop a pre-recorded message with one click and move to the next call immediately.

  1. Go to Settings > Audio Library to upload your voicemail MP3 files

  2. Back in your campaign, assign a voicemail for each dial attempt separately

Why per-attempt voicemails? Your message should evolve with each attempt:

Attempt

Voicemail message

1st

"Hi [Name], this is [Agent] from [Brand]. I noticed you left some items in your cart — I'd love to help you complete your order. Give us a call back at [number]."

2nd

"Hey [Name], just following up on those items you were looking at. Call us at [number] and I can walk you through checkout."

3rd

"Hi [Name], last call about your cart. If you have any questions about sizing, shipping, or anything else, we're here. [Number]."

Step 6: Create cue cards

Cue cards are AI-generated scripts that give your agents the perfect opener, engagement question, and closer for each campaign.

  1. In your campaign, go to the Guidelines & Cue Cards tab

  2. Click Generate Cue Cards

  3. Consio's AI creates a six-part script structure:

- Intro — opening line

- Reason for calling — why you're reaching out

- Engagement question — draw the customer into conversation

- Support guidance — how to handle objections

- Incentive offer — what you can offer (discount, free shipping, etc.)

- Close — wrap up and next steps

  1. Review and edit the generated scripts — customize for your brand voice

  2. Agents see these cue cards in the dialer during calls

Step 7: Launch

  1. Review all settings — segment, dial attempts, calling hours, voicemail, cue cards

  2. Click Start Campaign

  3. The campaign enters Live status

Execution modes:

  • Continuous — the campaign re-syncs your segment every 2 hours and adds new contacts automatically (e.g., new abandoned carts). This is the default and recommended mode for ongoing campaigns

  • One-time — the campaign processes the current segment once and stops

Monitoring your campaign

Once live, monitor in the Campaigns dashboard:

  • Queued calls — contacts waiting to be dialed

  • Completed calls — results with duration, disposition, and attributed revenue

  • Connection rate — percentage of calls that connect to a live person

  • Revenue attributed — sales linked to campaign calls (within your attribution window)

The dialer

Agents work from the dialer view, which shows:

  • Next call in queue (prioritized by revenue potential)

  • Customer info: active cart contents, past orders, discount codes used

  • Timeline view: all past interactions with this contact

  • Cue cards for the current campaign

After each call, agents select a disposition (connected, voicemail dropped, no answer, etc.) and the dialer advances to the next call.

Troubleshooting

No contacts in queue: Check that your segment has contacts and that the sync has completed (up to 2 hours after segment creation in Klaviyo).

Low connection rate: Review your calling hours — are you calling during peak answer times? Also check that your number has carrier registration to avoid spam labels.

Agents can't see cue cards: Make sure cue cards were generated in the campaign's Guidelines & Cue Cards tab.

Campaign shows "paused": Only workspace admins can start/pause campaigns. Check your role permissions.

How to verify it worked

After launching, confirm the campaign is live. Give the first segment import time to finish before treating an empty queue as a problem. You should see:

  • Campaign status showing Live

  • Contacts appearing in the Queued calls count

  • The dialer showing the next contact to call when an agent opens it
