Before you start
Shopify must be connected (Settings > Integrations)
Klaviyo must be connected (Settings > Integrations) if you plan to use Klaviyo segments
At least one campaign must be created (Campaigns > Create Campaign)
Two segment sources
Consio campaigns pull contacts from two sources. Both require 1-click integrations (Settings > Integrations).
Shopify segments
Consio creates a default segment in your Shopify instance: "Consio - Abandoned Checkouts - 15 days". This is the recommended starting point for your first campaign.
You can also create custom Shopify segments and they'll appear in Consio.
Best for: Simple targeting based on order data, checkout status, customer tags.
Klaviyo segments
Any segment in your Klaviyo account is available in Consio. Klaviyo offers more advanced targeting — behavioral triggers, email engagement, predicted LTV (lifetime value), and custom properties.
Best for: Behavioral targeting, multi-channel coordination, advanced segmentation logic.
Important: New Klaviyo segments evaluate your existing profile data as soon as they are created, so you do not need to wait for them to fill. Check the segment's conditions and member count in Klaviyo, then give Consio up to 2 hours to sync it.
How to assign a segment to a campaign
Go to Campaigns > select your campaign (or create a new one)
In the campaign configuration, find the Segment section
Choose your segment source: Shopify or Klaviyo
Select the specific segment from the dropdown
Save
The campaign will pull contacts from this segment on the next sync cycle.
Sync timing
Segments re-sync with Consio every 2 hours. This means:
New contacts added to a Klaviyo segment appear in Consio within 2 hours
Contacts removed from a segment are removed from the campaign queue within 2 hours
If you create a new segment, wait for the next sync cycle before it appears in Consio
Continuous campaigns re-check the segment every 2 hours and automatically add new contacts to the queue. This is the default and recommended mode for ongoing campaigns like abandoned cart recovery.
How to verify it worked
After assigning a segment to a campaign, check the campaign dashboard. Within 2 hours of the next sync, you should see contacts populating in the Queued calls count. If the count stays at zero after 2 hours, check that the segment has contacts and that the integration is connected (Settings > Integrations).
Choosing segments by campaign type
Campaign | Recommended segment | Source |
Abandoned cart recovery | Consio - Abandoned Checkouts - 15 days | Shopify (auto-created) |
Winback | No purchase in 90-120 days | Klaviyo |
VIP outreach | Top 10% by LTV | Klaviyo |
Reorder reminder | Purchased consumable 30+ days ago | Klaviyo |
Post-purchase upsell | Bought product X, not accessory Y | Klaviyo |
Product launch | Email engaged + purchased in category | Klaviyo |
Subscription retention | Subscription expiring in 7 days | Shopify or Klaviyo |
Hot leads | Added to cart but didn't checkout, today | Klaviyo |
Best practices
Start narrow, then expand. Launch your first campaign with the auto-created abandoned checkout segment. Once you see results, add Klaviyo segments for winback and upsell.
Don't overlap segments across campaigns. If a contact appears in two active campaigns, they could get called twice. Use Klaviyo's suppression lists or segment conditions to prevent overlap.
Use recency. Contacts who engaged recently convert better. A 15-day abandoned cart window outperforms a 60-day window. Segment age is not permission to call. Check the calling eligibility guidance for your audience separately.
Monitor segment size. A segment with 10,000 contacts and 2 agents will take weeks to work through. Match your segment size to your team capacity.
Troubleshooting
Segment not appearing in Consio: Wait for the next 2-hour sync. If it still doesn't appear, check that Klaviyo or Shopify is connected under Settings > Integrations.
Contacts not showing in campaign queue: The segment may be empty, or the contacts may have already been called the maximum number of times. Check dial attempt settings.
Stale contacts in queue: Contacts are removed when they leave the segment. If a customer completes checkout, they should drop out of the abandoned cart segment on the next Shopify sync.
