Why business verification matters
Business verification is the foundation of your phone presence. It unlocks:
SHAKEN/STIR Level A attestation — SHAKEN/STIR (Secure Handling of Asserted information using toKENs / Secure Telephone Identity Revisited) is the industry framework for verifying caller identity. Level A is the highest level, telling carriers your call is from a verified business. This reduces "Spam Likely" labels
CNAM (Caller ID Name) — your business name shows on outbound calls instead of a phone number
SMS registration — required before your number can send or receive text messages
Carrier trust — verified businesses get better call delivery and answer rates
Start this on day one. Verification takes 3–5 business days, and SMS registration (which requires verification first) takes another 5–7 business days. The sooner you start, the sooner you're fully operational.
What you'll need
Before starting the verification form, gather:
Legal business name — exactly as registered (not a DBA/Doing Business As name or trade name)
Business type — Corporation, LLC, sole proprietorship, etc.
Registration ID — your EIN (Employer Identification Number, US), BN (Business Number, Canada), or equivalent business registration number
Company website URL
Business address
Contact person — name, title (CEO, President, CX Director), and email on your company domain
Important: Use a company domain email (e.g., [email protected]), not a personal email (Gmail, Yahoo). Verification submissions with personal email addresses are frequently rejected.
Step-by-step walkthrough
Step 1: Open the Trust Center
Go to Settings > Trust Center in your Consio dashboard.
Step 2: Start verification
Click Verify Business. This opens a multi-step wizard.
Step 3: Enter business information
Fill in each field:
Legal business name — must match your official registration exactly
Industry — select the closest match
Business type — Corporation, LLC, Partnership, etc.
Registration ID — enter your EIN or equivalent. You'll see a dropdown for the ID type
Region of operations — where your business is registered
Website URL — your primary business website
Step 4: Enter representative information
Representative name — the person responsible for the account
Title — CEO, President, VP of Operations, etc.
Contact email — must be on your company domain
Phone number — a US-based contact number
Step 5: Submit
Review your information and click Submit. You'll see a confirmation that your verification is in progress.
What happens next
Your verification data goes to Twilio (Consio's phone infrastructure provider) for review. This is not used by Consio directly — it's a carrier-level verification.
Timeline: 3–5 business days for approval. If there are issues with your submission (mismatched business name, personal email, invalid EIN), the process may take longer.
Once approved:
Your business profile is verified ✓
CNAM becomes configurable (Settings > General > Caller ID Name, 15-character limit)
You can submit phone numbers for SMS registration
Outbound calls carry SHAKEN/STIR Level A attestation
After verification: next steps
Set your Caller ID Name (CNAM)
Go to Settings > General and find the Caller ID Name field. Enter your business name (max 15 characters). This is workspace-wide — it applies to all numbers in your account.
Note: CNAM display depends on the receiving carrier. It won't show 100% of the time on all carriers, but verification significantly improves display rates.
Register for SMS
With verification approved, you can now register phone numbers for SMS:
Go to Settings > Trust Center
Click Register for SMS
Select the phone number to verify
Choose your estimated monthly volume
Select Customer Care as use case
Specify your consent method (verbal consent is typical for phone platforms)
Submit your opt-in policy URL (Consio provides a template if you don't have one)
Submit — approval takes 5–7 business days for toll-free numbers
Register with carrier spam databases
After verification, register your outbound numbers with carrier analytics partners to further reduce spam labels. See the article Carrier spam registry registration for the full walkthrough.
Troubleshooting
Verification rejected — personal email: Resubmit with an email on your company domain (e.g., [email protected]).
Verification taking longer than 5 days: Contact your Consio onboarding manager or email support. They can escalate with Twilio.
EIN not found: Double-check the number against your IRS documentation. Ensure you selected the correct registration ID type in the dropdown.
Business name mismatch: The legal name must match your official registration. If you operate under a DBA, use the registered legal entity name, not the DBA.
